It all started with a misread itinerary. When we got to the Orlando airport yesterday I inserted my CC in the machine to get boarding passes and got the message, “Your flight has already departed. Please see a ticket agent.” After trying three more times to see if it would change I went to see a ticketing agent. She gave us “standby” tickets for a later flight with a change of planes in Atlanta.

The Atlanta airport was then shut down for several hours due to bad weather and a failed ground radar system. As a result our flight to Atlanta was delayed from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and our flight from Atlanta to Kansas City was delayed from 8:45 p.m. to 10:33 p.m. this was already seeming like a long day. When we finally got to KC about 1:00 a.m today our son’s car died.

After two policemen stopped to help us and calling our auto service and a taxi we got to a motel and had the car towed to an auto shop. We all got to bed about 3:30 a.m. Oh, did I mention we live in Omaha which is a 21/2 hour drive from KC?

Today while waiting for the call from the mechanic to find out the car needed a new catalytic converter the weather channel informed us that there was freezing rain to be followed by snow along our projected route home today and that travel was not recommended. Consequently, I am writing this at 5:00 p.m. in our motel room. By the way, it is now snowing as predicted. Tomorrow is supposed to be a much better travel day. I certainly hope so.

We just finished a 4 day visit to Disney World. there were 8 adults and 7 kids. In order to keep track of everyone my wife bought royal blue baseball caps for everyone. We all wore them every day and we were always able to find the members of our party whenever we were separated. The bright blue color was very easy to see at a distance and was very distinctive. It worked really well.

Another advantage of all of us having the hats presented itself when cast members started referring to us as the “blue hat bunch.” This recognition helped us several times to get the entire group on rides in adjacent cars or boats instead of being separated.
